Roll Roofing
Yes, Roll Roofing is one of many different type of roof materials available to the handyman/lady looking to complete his or her own roofing project. However, there are many different types of roof materials. Below are the most popular types of roof materials on the market today.

The most popular type of roofing material is a cousin to the roll roofing: the asphalt shingle.

Asphalt Shingle Roofing

This type of roofing is popular due to its cost effectiveness and ease of installation. Typical asphalt shingle roofing will last upwards of 30 years (for a good, quality product) and presents a list of other benefits including quietness (absorbs sound from rain), heat absorption, and visual appeal.

Unlike roll roofing, there is the potential for water leaks as this type of roofing involves nailing, which can and often will puncture the roofing deck.

Metal Roofing

This type of roofing has been gaining in popularity in recent years due to its life expectancy and recent enhancements to design. As a roof material, metal roofing can now have the appearance of upscale clay roofing tiles whereas originally it was installed as corrugated sheets. The old metal roofing (corrugated sheets) were rather unappealing as far as roof materials go and were never a serious candidate for most popular applications aside from hidden sheds.

Now metal roofing has the appeal of other commercial roof materials. The biggest disadvantage to today's metal roofing products is that they do not absorb sound the same way asphalt and clay roofing can and it is marginally more expensive than asphalt shingle roofing.

Clay Roofing

Clay roofing is by far the Rolls Royce of the roof materials. Clay products will last an eternity. In addition, clay roofing has the benefits of sound absorption, heat retention, and extreme durability. In fact, clay roofing is quite possibly the most durable roofing product.

However, clay roofing is among the most expensive roof materials. As a result, clay roofing makes other roof materials a lot more appealing to people who are looking at repair, replacing or installing a new roof.

There are other types of roof materials available on the market today, many of which occupy their own niche, such as wood roof materials and other composite roof materials.
